Sylvan Lake Cleanup 2025- 22nd Annual SUNDAY, Sept 21, 2025 -  for this dedicated Underwater Lake Cleanup at Sylvan Lake - Main Pier Area WANTED - Divers, Paddlers & Shore Cleanup Volunteers Please RSVP & register on-line via this portal.   Hosted by the Alberta Underwater Council and its volunteers, with thanks to Town of Sylvan Lake Beach Area Cleanup to be conducted by local volunteers at the same time - organized by the Town of Sylvan Lake WAIVERS & RISK AWARENESS FORMS for scuba diving must be read & voluntarily signed prior to participation Arrive early for Registration, Dive Safety Briefing, Dive Buddy Gear Checks, etc, BRING all your own gear, at least one tank, note that extra weights are useful as the lake is very shallow Encourage volunteers - frequent hand washing after handling trash collected   Divers, Remember to Bring: All your dive gear and only one tank!  Usually only do one dive to cleanup up underwater due to increased boat traffic in the afternoon PLUS: BCD, Regulators, drysuit/wetsuit, mask, snorkel, fins, boots, weights, dive computer, hood, gloves, 2-4 extra pounds of lead (max. depth is usually 6-10 feet so extra lead is helpful). Other dive gear that you will find useful to bring:  writing slate, compass, a tarp to change on Your certification card and logbook  Warm clothing, even if the sun is shining, be prepared for typical Alberta weather which could include rain, snow, and everything in between Town of Sylvan Lake usually provides BBQ Hot Dogs, or bring your own snacks, water, drinks Small amount of cash for donations, membership, raffle draws (if available) Mesh Bags & Cutting Device (safety scissors) provided by the AUC PADDLERS, launch 1/2 hour after our divers submerge BUT weather dependant (wind/waves) Paddlers, Remember to Bring: Life-Jacket, bailer, spare paddles, whatever you need to be safe out there! Appropriate clothing, wetsuits, wetsuit boots, (water temps are getting cold!), footwear, etc    SHORE SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS - assist divers, sort trash, record data, remove trash to garbage truck provided by the Town of Sylvan Lake Beach Cleanup to be conducted by local volunteers at the same time to be organized by the Town of Sylvan Lake - Please Remember to Bring: Appropiate clothing, sturdy footwear, garden gloves, small container for small metal pieces, broken glass, etc. DO NOT pick up needles - please report their location to the Town of Sylvan Lake.  

UW Dive Rodeo Events & Lake Cleanup Saturday, August 16th, 2025 Location: Cold Lk Provincial Park - Day Use area Hosted by FortMacScuba.com & local divers & includes fun activities like u/w search and retrieval, navigation, fine motor coordination, buoyancy, hand-eye coordination, and problem solving when cold and tired – through underwater checker games, target shooting, hunting for golf-balls, and other creative activities. It’s a great chance to practice your skills, whatever your skill level. Arrive early to register & set-up gear (Bring a Tarp), Must be present for Dive Safety Briefing. Lunch provided with registration fee (usually Subway - variety of meats, veggies, condiments, etc).    Divers, Remember to Bring: All your dive gear and tanks (at least 2 or more) - BCD, regulators, drysuit/wetsuit, mask, snorkel, fins, boots, weights, dive computer, hood, gloves, SMB - surface marker buoy - can be helpful as there is often lots of boat traffic who don't (unfortunately) respect or know about the dive marker buoys. Other dive gear that you will need to bring: writing slate & compass (one per buddy team), a dive light might also be of use as a signalling device. PLUS a tarp to change onto & keep your gear organized Your certification card and logbook  Warm clothing, even if the sun is shining, be prepared for typical Alberta weather which could include wind chill, rain, snow, and everything in between This event includes food and water, but if you have allergies or special dietary requirements, bring your own lunch, juice or snacks Lawn chair, bug spray, sunscreen Small amount of cash for registration fees, raffle draws, airfills (if available)

Dive into Editing Workshop with Drey Stockert Divescapes Scuba Conference - McKenzie Room at the Deerfoot Inn 10 am - Noon So many of us sit on footage from our dive trips and aren’t sure what to do with it. In this workshop, Women Divers Hall of Fame inductee and award winning editor and television producer, Drey Stockert, will lead a hands-on workshop designed to help you turn your underwater footage into captivating stories. In this two-hour session, Drey will guide participants through the essentials of video editing, from crafting a compelling narrative to selecting the perfect shots (and cleaning up the ones that aren’t so perfect). She’ll share some tips for organizing your footage for a seamless workflow and together, you’ll craft a fun, social media ready, 2 minute documentary. With live demonstrations and practical tips, divers will learn how to create stunning social media-ready videos that will impress their friends and showcase the beauty of the underwater world. Whether you're new to editing or looking to enhance your skills, this workshop is perfect for divers ready to take their underwater storytelling to the next level.  There is plenty to learn with or without your laptop in hand.
